Welcome to Hen Hotel.
As a hobby it gives me a great deal of pleasure to hatch pure breed bantam chicks. I am not a commercial breeder and only hatch a few chicks at a time as I like to keep some for myself and sell the rest that are surplus. I can only keep so many !
They are given the best start in life and I have the highest standards of cleanliness - I have been to various breeders and it still shocks me at the state some chickens are kept in. There is no excuse for chickens to be wading through knee deep mud or standing on wet, smelly bedding. I have seen it all and it is inexcusable. My adult birds live in a clean chicken house and are allowed to roam around my garden. I keep a close eye on them to maintain their health and I take great pride in seeing them gleaming with good conditioned feathers when the sun comes out.
Equally, my chicks are raised indoors for the first couple of weeks where I can keep an eye on them and get them used to me so that they are hand tame by the time it comes to them going to their new homes. My Booted Bantam chicks and Pekin chicks have regular "foot washes" so that their feathered feet stay clean. Again, a basic husbandry chore that seems to be neglected by so many. After a couple of weeks they are moved to an outside room where they are still under heat but are gradually hardened up to a cooler temperature. At four to five weeks, depending on weather conditions, they are moved to an outside hutch where they are fully hardened up and become ready to leave me to go to their new owners. They live on wood shavings which I change regularly so that they are always comfortable and most importantly, healthy.
I have met many interesting people who are new to chicken keeping and I love giving them my chicks and giving them as much information as I can so that they go away secure in the knowledge that they can house and raise their chicks to the best of standards. I love to see photos and hear how they are getting on and will happily answer any questions that may crop up afterwards.
The chicks I predominantly hatch are : Lemon Millefleur Booted Bantams (my favourites !), Serama, Orpington Bantams (mainly Chocolate but sometimes other colours), Polish Bantams (with the big hairdo) and Frizzle Pekin Bantams. I sometimes hatch other breeds - please email me to find out what I have at the present time.
Please take a look at my pictures - there are various photos of my little chicks and a couple of my adult Serama, Booted, Frizzle Pekins and Orpingtons.
If you would like to come and see my birds and possibly buy any chicks I may have at the time, please feel free to email or call me. I am always happy to "talk chickens!"
